BINGO for Learning
BINGO for Learning is a free, web-based gamification tool built by Prof. Andrew M. Janczak that helps teachers turn repetition of coursework into an interactive game. Students play bingo using course material, giving instructors a fast, low-pressure signal of which concepts the class has — and has not — retained.

How the tool works
After logging in, the teacher selects a content package from a dropdown menu. The dashboard generates a unique session code that must be shared with students before they can join.
Each session is strictly single-use. Once a round is complete, the teacher clicks End Session to close it before a new one can begin. Refreshing the page or navigating away always generates a fresh session code, which must again be shared with students before they can join.
Before play begins, the teacher configures two display settings: whether selected squares give immediate visual feedback — correct answers turning green and incorrect ones turning red — or whether all selected squares remain blue regardless of accuracy. The teacher also decides whether questions are listed on the students' screens. Both settings can be changed at any point during the game.
During the game, the teacher clicks Release to send a question to students, where it appears above their bingo board. If questions are not shown on screen, the teacher should also read them aloud. The teacher can see in real time when a student calls Bingo. If the system rejects a claim the teacher considers correct, they retain full authority and can use the Override and Approve button to accept it.
What teachers learn from a session
When the game is finished, clicking End Session closes the session and generates an automatic report. Red cards identify concepts that were released during the session but not successfully identified by any student; green cards mark concepts that were not covered at all. The Learning Gaps view aggregates these signals and shows which terms were left unmarked most frequently, giving teachers a direct, evidence-based picture of which concepts the class still needs to revisit. No grading, no survey, and no extra preparation required — the game itself does the diagnostic work.
Access and technical requirements
Teachers create a free account directly in the app by selecting Create an account and registering with an email address. Students need no account of their own; they join a live session using a code provided by the teacher and a nickname. The tool runs entirely in the browser and works on phones, tablets, and desktop computers without any installation required. Sessions using longer answer strings may be easier to navigate on a laptop screen, where the full bingo board is visible without scrolling.
